Rise of Chinese Smartphones around the globe

Apple and Samsung have been the dominant players in the global smartphone market for the past few decades but in recent years the Chinese smartphone brand has outgrown China and captured a share of the global market.

Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo may not be companies from our country but these Chinese smartphone brands are powerful and affordable and are becoming more and more attractive to users around the globe.

In 2020, South Korea’s Samsung topped the list of smartphone shipments worldwide, selling 255 million units, followed by Apple with 205 Million units shipped.

But that year Chinese brands Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo took the next places and shipped 100 million smartphones each that year.

The main reason why Chinese-made phones are so popular is that they come in more models (low-mid-high) than top brands.

Chinese phone companies not only release one or two premium flagship models every year, but they also try to offer the most affordable phones with premium features.

As a result, sales of Chinese smartphones have skyrocketed as Chinese phones are available at a discounted price along with premium features.

First 5G Smartphone launched-

In the first quarter of 2020 Xiaomi introduces their first 5G smartphone only at 25,000+ rupees, throughout the year other Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo and Honor then immediately launched affordable 5G phones.

Apple and Samsung started making low-cost phones to fight with the strong sales of Chinese mid-range 5G phones, but they found it very difficult to keep up with the price of Chinese smartphones.

They introduced their first 5G iPhone in the fourth quarter of 2020, and at the end of 2020 for the first time in history total of four iPhones have been launched to compete with other brands in the mid-and high-end phones.

Secret Behind the rise of Chinese Smartphones-

The only reason for the success of the Chinese brand is not only to give the best phones at affordable prices but also gives the equivalent or better features to the customer while competing with every Apple and Samsung flagship phones.

Like the big brands in the market, Chinese brands introduce new cameras and screen technologies in their flagship models every year but sometimes they even introduce new technologies before these major brands.

If talk about Camera technology, Chinese companies take a step ahead, they collabs with big photography brands such as Leica, Hasselblad and Zeiss to offer next-level photography experience and excellent camera service.

Xiaomi states, they spend $1 Billion on their R&D facility last year, so competitors for Apple and Samsung are emerging in China.

Chinese Companies are banned in the US

At the same time, some Chinese companies have suffered huge losses due to the US allegations against some Chinese companies and the sanctions imposed on them.

American businesses were banned from doing business with the Chinese company, resulting in a ban on Huawei to use Google Apps on phones, a major blow to the company’s software ecosystem, resulting in 2020 Huawei‘s smartphone sales outside China have fallen dramatically.

U.S. suppliers have also banned exports to another Chinese smartphone maker ZTE, after it was found to have violated sanctions by exporting technology to North Korea and Iran.

But despite these obstacles, other Chinese smartphone brands are still gaining popularity and some reputed mobile companies including LG, HTC, SONY, NOKIA and MOTOROLA are raising their good image around the world.

Recently LG gives the statement that they are exiting from the mobile phone business.
